               Getting Started - Painting

We will guide you through the concepts needed to produce different effects in your watercolor paintings.  Visit our forum to get a list of materials you will need.  Then read some of the blog posts and pick your first subject.  I recommend a landscape painting and just a few limited colors to work from.  Don't be afraid to experiment.  Start with sketching your painting out first then choose your colors.

 Watercolor Art Tip #23

Picking the right colors for your palette can be a challenge.  To simplify things we are using just the basic color wheel to demonstrate the relationship between them. Picking the right color relations will make a world of difference.  Choosing the proper colors will help you achieve a certain feel to a painting.  Dark colors are generally considered cool colors while lighter colors will provide a warm feeling to your painting.

Primary colors are Red, Yellow, and Blue.  Secondary colors are accomplished by mixing two primary colors.  One example of this is the color violet. It is considered a cool color.  You start with the lighter primary color red and mix the primary color blue a little at a time to achieve violet.
